Captain Gerald is a native Floridian born in Ft. Myers in 1944. He now lives deep in the Everglades in a historical "Hunt Cabin" that he personally rebuilt. The cabin can only be accessed by airboat since there are no roads to the isolated location. Captain Gerald is a professional airboat operator who has been airboating for 52 years and is well qualified in his field. His powerful airboat can accommodate up to 8 people and can link to other tour companies for group tours. A tour can be one or more hours long. The two and three hour tours are recommended as "best value" and include a stop at the historical cabin. Sightings may include: birds, fish, turtles, frogs, alligators and local everglades flora and vegetation. The tour is done in the area of the Everglades known as the "River of Grass." Periodic stops are normal to offer information and answer questions.
The Everglades, which is approximately 100 miles long and 60 miles wide, is a slow-moving river and the largest subtropical wetland ecosystem in North America. The Seminole Tribe gave the large body of water the name Okeechobee meaning “River of Grass” to describe the sawgrass marshes which are part of a complex system of interdependent ecosystems. On this airboat tour, you will learn more amazing facts about the Everglades from someone who calls it home. Come explore the world's wetland treasure with Captain Gerald!
